1993 Porsche 964 3.6L Turbo

The 1993 Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 represents the pinnacle of the 964 generation 911 Turbo lineup. Using the internal “964” model code between 1989-1994, the Turbo 3.6 arrived in 1993 packing a substantially uprated 3.6-liter flat-six engine.

This M64/50 motor, itself an evolution of the preceding 3.3-liter Turbo unit, produced a mighty 360 horsepower along with 384 lb-ft of torque – huge gains cementing the car’s reputation as a benchmark sports car of its era. Acceleration from 0-60mph took as little as 4.7 seconds on the way to a 174mph top end.

To tame the additional output, the Turbo 3.6 featured wider rear wheel arches accommodating bigger wheels, along with a fixed rear spoiler for improved high-speed stability. Chassis enhancements encompassed larger brakes and stiffer suspension calibration. Subtler cues like the iconic tea-tray wing let the cognoscenti know this was no ordinary 911.

The Turbo 3.6’s enhanced performance perfectly aligned with Porsche’s racing ethos, yet it remained a usable and relatively civilized daily driver. Its 360hp single-turbo flat-six marked the end of an era before the 1995 introduction of twin-turbocharging with the 993 Turbo.

As the last of the single-turbo 911 variants, the limited production Turbo 3.6 is treasured today for its exclusivity. Fewer than 1,400 examples of the coveted 3.6-liter Turbo were built, representing a tiny fraction of the 62,000+ total 964 models manufactured.

This 1993 3.6L Turbo was delivered new to France in a factory color combination of Midnight Blue metallic over matching leather. Long-term owner Wim Decock acquired the car in the mid-1990s with under 3,000 kilometers recorded. It presents today as a collectible example of the 964 Turbo’s ultimate iteration.
