1967 Chevrolet Impala SS 396 Coupe

When the rockin’ 1950s slid into the groovy 1960s, Chevrolet kept pace by debuting a new top-shelf full-size sports car in ’58 called the Impala. At first it wore the classic finned style of the fabulous ’50s, but by 1965 when the fourth generation Impala cruised in, the sleek Coke-bottle shape was the rage.

The inaugural 1958 Impalas came only as snazzy two-door rides, though later generations expanded into a full lineup of coupes, sedans and station wagons featuring everything from six-cylinder yawns to mighty big-block V8 growls.

This sweet 1967 Impala SS 396 Coupe you see here sports the shapely Coke-bottle styling introduced in 1965 but updated for 1967. Under that long hood lurks a thundering 396 cubic-inch Turbo-Jet V8 pumping out 325 horses, with 410 ft-lbs of twist ready to thrill at 3200 RPM thanks to a 10.25:1 compression ratio.

The power flows through an optional console-shifted 3-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic to leave anyone who doubts her in the dust. This two-door coupe measures 17 feet 9 inches long with its racy profile featuring a lengthy hood and short rear deck that defined muscle cars of the era.

She’s decked out in Butternut Yellow over black vinyl interior. The SS label was just a trim package by the mid-60s, but this Impala wore it with pride. Inside, the strutting buckets and console say one thing: hold on and have fun.

The current owner acquired this Impala in 2007 and has barely taken her out since, so she’s still got miles left to cruise. The odometer shows a tick over 80,000. For the next lucky cat who wants to ride on a pair of smoking Goodyear Eagles, a big block Impala is the hottest ticket around.
