1959 Mercury Country Cruiser Colony Park Station Wagon
The 1959 Mercury Country Cruiser Colony Park Station Wagon is a stunning example of mid-century American automotive design, combining luxury, practicality, and the distinctive style of the late 1950s.
As the top-of-the-line full-size station wagon offered by Mercury, the Colony Park celebrated the brand’s 20th anniversary with a sleek redesign aimed at attracting customers from competitors like Rambler, Oldsmobile, and Buick.
Measuring just over 18 feet long, the Colony Park boasted an array of features and Jet Age style elements, from its quad headlamps to afterburner-inspired finned tail lights.
The pillarless hardtop body showcased sculpted lines, giving it a more refined appearance than its predecessors, while the simulated woodgrain trim on the Colony Park models paid homage to the handcrafted wood-bodied station wagons of the past.
According to the accompanying documentation and build sheets, this particular Colony Park rolled out of the Wayne, Michigan Assembly Plant with a powerful 383-cubic-inch Marauder V-8 engine, factory-rated at 322 horsepower, and a smooth-shifting Merc-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission.
The wagon was equipped with optional power steering and power brakes, ensuring effortless handling on the road, and rode on wide whitewall tires with turbine-style full wheel covers.
Inside, the Colony Park featured a spacious and luxurious two-tone interior, which Mercury described as “practical luxury.” The tinted Panoramic Skylight Windshield wrapped over the roofline and around the sides, allowing excellent visibility and ample natural light.
Modern amenities included a jet-styled instrument cluster, optional push-button AM radio, power windows and locks, and a power-retracting tailgate window.
An optional third-row Stow-Away folding seat increased the wagon’s capacity to nine passengers, while a roof-mount luggage rack and over 90 cubic feet of interior cargo space with below-deck hideaway compartments provided more than enough storage for family trips.
