1953 Bentley 6.5L Peterson Racer
The 1953 Bentley 6-1/2 Liter Supercharged Petersen Racer is a contemporary tribute to the legendary Bentley racers of the 1920s and ’30s, particularly the iconic supercharged “Blower Bentleys.” This modern creation pays homage to the brand’s vintage racing heritage.
While not actually produced in 1953, these continuation racers are hand-built by UK-based Bentley specialist Bob Petersen Engineering.
Each bespoke build combines classic pre-war Bentley design cues with modern engines, frequently enhanced by superchargers that evoke the performance-boosting blowers used in the 1920s. Its powerful engine coupled with a light body weight make for an exhilarating driving experience.
This particular Peterson Racer was built in 2003. Its “in-your-face” presence stems from a brawny 6.5-liter straight-eight engine, originally a B81 military unit from WWII and now enhanced by a Petersen supercharger for over 400bhp.
This mighty powerplant redlines at 5,500rpm and routes power through a Salisbury limited-slip differential to 19” wheels wrapped in Dunlop racing rubber.
The Petersen Racer’s hand-formed bodywork bears the unmistakable lines of vintage Bentleys, with long hoods, large headlamps, and roomy two-seat cockpits. Period-correct racing features often include leather hood straps, wire wheels, and racing livery.
For collectors who value the marque’s sporting pedigree, the Petersen Racer superbly captures the adventure and passion of the original Bentley racers.
